OPPORTUNITIES
Cardinal Engineering believes that our community is where we
live, work, raise our families and enjoy our surroundings. We
believe in making our community better, not just by the job we
do, but by the organizations we support and the time we spend
actively involved in these organizations.
2007 was a busy year for Cardinal employees, as well as, the
beginning of 2008 with participation in the following community
services…
- As Oklahoma dealt with its 7th Presidential Disaster of
2007, Dave Tedford, of Cardinal Engineering, volunteered to
manage the Red Cross Ice Storm Shelter at the Cox Center for
disaster relief of those affected by the weather. Leaving
one-third of the state's population without power at one
time or another and leading to at least 20 fatalities, the
December 2007 ice storm ended the year much as the January
2007 ice storm began the year.
- Cardinal Engineering, along with other companies and
individuals, partnered with Sunbeam Family Services in
December 2007 to provide Christmas presents for 487 children
being raised by 160 grandparent families. Cardinal is
excited to be involved in this program for the second year.
- In association with Bicycle Alley, Coffee Slingers, and
Cricket Communications, Cardinal hosted an event to benefit
the ADA. Held at its new office in downtown OKC, the event
included a donation, by Cardinal Engineering, of $1,000 to
the ADA and Bicycle Alley donating 10% of sales for the
evening to the ADA. All in attendance enjoyed a bicycle
clothing fashion show, a ribbon cutting to commemorate the
opening of the new building, as well as, drinks and
refreshments provided by Iguana Mexican Grill.
- As part of OKC Beautiful, Cardinal employees
participated in Litterblitz OKC. Participants helped pick up
trash in the “neighborhood” of our new downtown location
along with other neighborhood businesses.
- Brandie Schender, a Cardinal Employee, has organized
involvement by the Cardinal employees in the “Get Walking
OKC” campaign started by Mayor Mick Cornett in conjunction
with the OKC Community Foundation. Cardinal employees came
together in their commitment to promoting health in OKC and
agreed to walk at least 10 miles per week for 13 weeks. In
reward for achieving this goal, OKC is awarding each team of
10-25 participants, $100 per team member to donate to a
charity of their choice. GO TEAM CARDINAL!!!!!
- The Festival of the Arts is a huge event in OKC each
year. In April 2008, Gail Grady rallied Cardinal employees
to volunteer for the “Friends of Artists” program which
works to assist artists, exhibiting their art in the OKC
Arts Festival . Cardinal is committed to aiding in the
advancement of art and culture in OKC as well as the many
other community services they are involved in.
In addition to this impressive list of community programs and
events that Cardinal employees have been involved in, the
following charities, organizations and events have also
benefited from the donation of time and funds by Cardinal and
its employees…
- Traveler’s Aid of OKC
- Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
- Redbud Classic
- United Way
- American Cancer Society
- Boy Scouts of America
- Girl Scouts of America
- Junior League
- Local Children’s Athletic Teams
- Various Church programs and missions
- YMCA of Greater OKC
- PTA organizations
- Oklahoma City Community Foundation
HEALTH INCENTIVE
Cardinal believes in the health of its employees and offers
each employee the opportunity to participate in the Cardinal
Health Incentive program. Each employee is given the opportunity
to set personal quarterly goals and upon achieving each
quarterly goal, is awarded a $300 check. Since the turn of the
century, Cardinal has paid out a total of $100,000 in Health
Incentive bonuses. During this time, an average of 41.2% of all
health goals have been met.
We are off to a great start in 2008 with 30 personal goals
achieved. After only two quarters, Cardinal has already awarded
$9,000 this year. Cardinal was previously named as one of
Oklahoma’s Certified Healthy Businesses.
One of the ways that Cardinal promotes good health to it’s
employees is encouraging them to stay active, even in the
workplace. Upon moving to our new office in downtown OKC,
Cardinal has purchased two Cardinal bikes to be utilized by
employees to run errands, make deliveries, and even for
recreational riding on breaks. Some Cardinal employees have even
started riding their own bikes to work, or keeping their own
bikes at work to take rides along the riverfront or through
downtown.
TEAM CARDINAL
“Team Cardinal” was formed in 2006. Numerous events have been
entered in the last couple of years such as the YMCA Chili Day
Run, “Running for Bella”, and the Red Bud Classic in 2007, as
well as, the 2007/2008 ADA Tour de Cure bike rides and the 2008
American Lung Association Clean Air Challenge 5K and 1 mile fun
walk at the OKC Zoo.
Team Cardinal is currently participating in the “Get Walking
OKC” challenge started by Mayor Mick Cornett and the OKC
Community Foundation. This event which involves each team member
walking at least 10 miles a week for 13 weeks has the potential
to earn up to $100 per participant in Charitable donations.
Team Cardinal also plans to participate in the Susan G. Komen
Race for the Cure, 5K. The path for this run should take us
right past the new OKC Cardinal office. This event is scheduled
for October 4th, details to be announced later. Also, the Fall
Classic Duathalon is being held on October 19th. It will include
a 2 mile run, then a 14 mile bike ride, followed by another 2
mile run. If you know of an event that you would like to see
Team Cardinal participate in, contact Patrick Riley at 842-1066
or by email at
pr@cardinalengineers.com with details.
